How we verify LLC fees and prices, and how often

Updated 17 Oct 2026 · LLCTally

Every figure on this site comes from a page you can open yourself. Next to each value is a numbered source, and at the bottom of each page the list of sources with the date we read them. This page explains where the figures come from, what we do when one is missing, and when we read them again.

State fees: only official pages

For each state we read the fee schedules, forms, statutes and tax agency pages that the state itself publishes: the Secretary of State or equivalent office, the state legislature, and the state’s tax agency. Next to each source we record the passages we read, so that anyone can check them. Every state source was read on 17 October 2026.

A fee we could not read on an official page is not documented, never zero. For New Mexico, Ohio and South Carolina we could not confirm whether LLCs file a yearly report, so their totals are minimums. When an official page blocked automated access, we read a copy of the same page kept by the Internet Archive; the source list gives the date of that copy.

When two official documents of the same state give different fees, we show both and choose neither. This happens for Alaska’s formation fee [1] [2], Missouri’s formation fee [65] [66] and Montana’s report fee [70] [71]. The calculator then gives a minimum.

Formation services: published prices only

For the formation services we read the public pricing pages, without creating an account or asking for a quote. The calculator uses each service’s base package and its registered agent price, as the service publishes them. A “starting at” price makes the total a minimum. A price we could not read stays missing. Northwest Registered Agent and Registered Agents Inc. block automated access, so their prices come from copies of their pages kept by the Internet Archive, with the date of each copy.

We have not used these services, and we did not form test LLCs. We report what the services and the states publish.

What we never do

When we read the sources again

We plan to read every source again at least every six months, and sooner when a state announces a change. Each change we find goes into the LLC fee change log, with the old and the new source. If you see a figure that no longer matches the official page, the date next to it tells you when we read it.
